What is Your Miracle Story? Time to Start Writing!

Start writing your miracle story

Have you seen the movie “Lion?” It is a miracle story about a little boy from India, Saroo Brierley, who was separated from his family and eventually ended up being adopted by a family in Australia. As the movie goes on, it tells the story of his desire to go back and find his birth family. He was gone for 25 years…and journeys back to find his mother and brothers and sisters. The part of this story that hit me the hardest  is that it is real. It’s not a fictional story…but the real story of a little boy and his journey in life. For days afterwards, I kept thinking back to the persistence and courage Saroo had and the payoff he received by pursuing his desire.

So let me ask, what is your miracle story?

You might be saying, “My story isn’t that big or that earth-shattering.” I beg to differ with you. Each and every one of us has a testimony of how God has kept us – whether we know God or not. I will admit, many times miracles happen and I will either not notice them or forget them over time. (That is a sad statement…that I actually forget some of the miracles that God has done for me, but I know I am not alone in this.) However, I have found when I write them down and share them with others, it reminds me of what God has brought me through in the past AND it encourages others who I share it with.

Steps to Capturing Your Miracle Story

Ask God to make you aware of the miracles He is doing in your life

Many times people attribute miracles to coincidence or luck. For example, my friend who was late for the train to take him into NYC the morning of 9/11 because his alarm didn’t go off – that isn’t happenstance – that is a miracle from God. Even so much as finding a front row parking spot at the mall during Christmas time or “running into” your best friend from elementary school 25 years later – none of those events “just happen.” So begin to ask God to highlight these special things He is doing so you can thank Him, get to know Him better and build your faith for more moves of God in your life.

Journal Your Experiences

Have your pick! Typed, audio recordings, or hand written it doesn’t matter. Capture as much of it as you can! Thoughts, feelings, interactions, what you were wearing, smelling or eating…anything that will help you remember. If you are going through tough times, journaling can help you trace the path to healing and wholeness. Ask God to speak to you as you journal and write down what He shares with you. Your journal is very intimate. It is recording thoughts and conversations that are for you to remember, learn, grow and celebrate.

Share Your Story

Don’t keep the good news all to yourself. Share your story! You don’t need to share all of the nitty gritty details; but the trial God brought you through is very similar to the one someone else is going through right now. The sharing of your story can help you realize the miracle in your life AND give the other person the encouragement to keep pressing and make it through their trial.

If we take a look, The Bible is full of many great stories of real people who went through very trying times…BUT GOD! And it is in their victory that we find strength and encouragement to press forward knowing that God loves blessing His children.
