It’s Time to Accomplish Your Kingdom Writing Goals

Can you believe we are already halfway through the first quarter of 2023? I know, that thought hit me pretty hard as well. Here is a more empowering thought…Today is a great day to start (or re-start) reaching toward your goal!

For many of us, we picture “success” as a straight line – just do this, then this, then you meet with success. While that sounds great, the reality and truth of that belief is false. But don’t despair! You are not alone.

Embrace the Process

When doing Kingdom writing, there are two processes at play; one, your growth as a writer and two, your growth in your relationship with God. Both can be challenging at times, but totally worth it!

We only have to look as far as Corrie ten Boom as one source for inspiration. She was a Dutch Christian author and Holocaust survivor. During World War II, she and her family helped to hide Jewish refugees from the Nazis, but were eventually caught and sent to concentration camps themselves. After the war, ten Boom began writing about her experiences, including her faith in God and the power of forgiveness. Her most famous work, The Hiding Place, has been translated into over 60 languages and has inspired countless readers with its message of hope and resilience.

The content of her books is inspiring, but she experienced many trials and miracles with God before the first word was ever penned. She shared her stories through presentations before collaborating with John and Elizabeth Sherrill in the writing of her first book. The Hiding Place was finally published 27 years after she was released from the World War II prison camps.

Don’t get discouraged. Instead, start working on your Kingdom Writing goal!

Here are 5 Tips to Help you Accomplish your Kingdom Writing Goals

  1. Set a Realistic Goal
If you are anything like me, I have a tendency to over commit. “Sure, I can write this book in two weeks!” Or, you fail to set a goal in the first place, so you end up floundering around instead of being focused.STOP IT!! Both of those tactics will quickly get you discouraged and off track. First of all, make sure you have a goal. Then, if it is a large goal, block it out into smaller goals – ones that you can track and celebrate.
  2. Set Aside time for Prayer and Time in The Word
You might say, “I don’t have enough time to write. This will just take up more of my time!”
The truth is, when we acknowledge God in all of our ways, He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way]. (Proverbs 3:6)By seeking Him for guidance, the words will come easier.
  3. Commit to Writing a Specific Writing Schedule
Write it down on your calendar. If it is 15 minutes a day or 45 minutes 3 times a week, commit to a specific writing schedule. If you commit to writing just 15 minutes a day, 6 days a week, by the end of the year, you will have logged 80 hours of writing. Also, when you set time to write, your brain conditions itself to write during that time. You will find yourself getting into the flow of writing much quicker!
  4. Surround Yourself with Other Kingdom Writers
A great way to get encouragement is to get in community. Speaking with other writers brings inspiration to keep pressing forward towards your writing goals. There are many ways to do this, such as: join a critique group or a writing club. Kingdom Publishing offers The Writer’s Inner Circle as a way to connect with writers. If you are in the Denver Metro area, check out Writers on the Rock, an active group of Christian authors.
  5. Think About and Pray for the People you are Writing For
Take a moment to pray for the target market of the piece you are writing. This not only puts you in a place of praying for others, but it also reminds you of the importance of your writing project.

When we don’t walk out our calling of who God designed us to be, so many people miss out. You miss out because you aren’t receiving all that God has for you. And the people you are supposed to reach won’t have the book, blog post, or article doesn’t exist, the people designated for you to help won’t be reached.

So, the time is now to get moving forward, and step into your Kingdom Writing assignment. People are waiting to read what you have to write.
